Your BMI is 40 or more , or its 35 and you have medical complications such as high blood pressure and diabetes. You’ve tried all the diets and exercise regimes and none has helped.
Where to from here?
If you’re at this point you most likely qualify for bariatric surgery. This is done by a general surgeon and involves surgeries that limit the amount of food your can consume, or it limits the amount of nutrients you can absorb from the food you eat.
Both of these options come with certain complications which your general surgeon will explain to you in detail. Dr Geoffreys will be happy to refer you to a colleague who deals with these cases specifically.
Once you’ve lost the desired weight after this surgery, or by dieting and exercise alone its time for plastic surgery. Due to the increased weight that you’ve had, your skin was stretched beyond its own elastic limits to retract again to its original state, and now you're left with hanging folds of skin that are not only unsightly but also get in the way of day to day activities.
The re-contouring of you body by the excision of this excess skin and fat, the restoration of muscle continuity will take place in multiple stages.
Abdominoplasties (Tummy tuck), Belt lipectomies (full body lift) , breast lifts/ reduction, breast augmentations, brachioplasty (arm lift) , Labioplasty , and even face lifts are procedures that could be potentially needed in these cases. This will all need to be evaluated on an individual basis and Dr Geoffreys will expertly analyze and discuss your case at your consultation.
These are usually large surgeries and may require a lot of down time from work and complications are frequently higher in these cases than in others. All will again be discussed at your consultation.
