Hyaluronic Acid Fillers (Dermal fillers)

What is HA (Hyaluronic acid)?
HA is found in all mammalian tissue and is identical in all mammals. It is essentially a carbohydrate that is found in the spaced between your cells. This molecule causes the water between your cells to be jelly like instead of water like, providing the tutor needed to support your tissues.
Where does it come from?
Originally produced from the combs of roosters, it is now produced in a lab under stringent protocols by bacterial fermentation.
Essentially this produces long chains of HA which when injected into tissues would be absorbed in 24 hours. Therefore the molecule undergoes further stabilization and cross linking to allow it to retain water and last much longer.
How long does it last?
Fillers last for anywhere between 9 and 24 months. The reason for such a large discrepancy is because there are so many factors contributing to absorption. Firstly it is important to note that filler is eventually 100% reabsorbed with time.
Factors that contribute to absorption relate the the product itself such as about of cross liking and the volume injected. Also the area that’s injected play a role and so does the patients own metabolism.
